Colorado Avalanche learn to play program coming to Vail
The Vail Recreation District is excited to announce that registration is now open for the return of the Mile High Mites Learn to Play hockey program, put on in conjunction with the Colorado Avalanche, NHL and NHLPA.
The program will take place at Dobson Ice Arena in Vail this fall. The six on-ice lessons will occur from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. on Aug. 30, Sept. 6, Sept. 13, Sept. 20, Oct. 2 and Oct. 9. Please note that the first four sessions take place on Thursdays and the last two sessions are on Tuesdays.
Learn to Play is open to youth ages 5 to 9 years old. Participants birth dates must be between Aug. 31, 2008, and Aug. 30, 2013. This program is offered to players that are not currently on a team and registration is based on that criteria.
The program strives to maximize the number of kids playing hockey in Colorado by providing a low-cost, beginner-level program for youth interested in learning the game. This program will provide a fun atmosphere by delivering the game in an age-appropriate manner, and is a great introductory program for any kids interested in participating in VRD’s Mini Mite and Mite hockey programs beginning mid-October. Vail’s youth hockey coach Andy Holland and Power Skating and Learn to Skate instructor Tara Lane will be teaming up to lead this great program.
The program fee is $190 and includes a full set of CCM hockey equipment plus six, one-hour on ice sessions, (one of which will include a Colorado Avalanche alumni), and a Hockey 101 session for players and parents at the Pepsi Center. Upon completion of the Learn to Play program, participants will be able to keep their equipment.
