Colorado governor: We’re interested in Olympics

DENVER – Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter is again floating the idea of bringing the Winter Olympics to his state.

Ritter said Friday he’s disappointed the 2016 Summer Games won’t be in Chicago but said Colorado is still “extremely” interested in hosting a future Olympics.

A year ago, Ritter said that if Chicago didn’t win the 2016 Games, Denver could be a viable candidate for the 2018 Winter Games.

On Friday, the International Olympic Committee knocked Chicago out of the running in the first round and awarded the 2016 Games to Rio de Janeiro.

Denver might be a tough sell, however. The IOC awarded the city the 1976 Winter Games, but voters rejected a measure to pay for them, citing environmental and financial concerns.
