Conway Cup today at Golden Peak
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL – The 30th anniversary Korbel American Ski Classic starts today, as the third-annual Conway Cup community team race, presented by Korbel, kicks off the festivities at Vail Mountain’s Golden Peak.
An 11:30 a.m. start, the Conway Cup is named and run in memory of Dan Conway, a great friend to ski racing at all levels throughout the Vail Valley, who died in May 2009.
“The Conway Cup, presented by Korbel, has been a popular addition to the annual Korbel American Ski Classic,” said Michael Imhof, vice president of sales and operations for the Vail Valley Foundation. “We are proud to be able to not only continue to pay tribute to Dan and all that he accomplished through ski racing in this valley but also to add a dynamic new local component to the overall event.”
The Conway Cup features four-member teams of local racers, competing in a dual-race format, with prizes, including a spot in the Korbel Ford Cup later this week in the American Ski Classic. Second- and third-place teams also will receive prizes. Costumes are encouraged, and fun is definitely the name of the game.
In addition to the Conway Cup, the American Ski Classic races also will include the Volvo Legends of Skiing giant slalom Thursday, the Future Legends Race on Friday and the Korbel Ford Cup celebrity team races Friday and Saturday. All Korbel American Ski Classic competitions are hosted at Golden Peak in Vail and are free to the public.
