Cordillera ‘Short Course’ is now open in Edwards

Daily staff report

EDWARDS — The Cordillera Short Course, a nine-hole course designed by Dave Pelz in 1997, is now open to all members of The Club at Cordillera. The Club at Cordillera and SW Greens Management, which operates the Short Course, inked an agreement to give the growing Cordillera membership “another benefit,” said Club general manager Mike Henritze, of Troon Prive, the management company for the club.

“The property owners’ board, the Short Course operator SW Greens and I realized that we have an amazing asset located on the north side near the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera that is, frankly, underutilized,” Henritze said. “We thought, ‘Who doesn’t need to practice his short game?’ The Short Course is maintained to our standard of excellence and we, as a group, decided to open this amazing amenity up for all to enjoy.”

In the past, the Short Course was open only to Cordillera property owners living on the north side of Interstate 70. For the past two summers, the Short Course was also open for public play and for season pass holders. Now, the Short Course will be open to all Club at Cordillera members as well as to the public.

The Short Course, which is the only one of its kind in the country, includes a 50-yard pitching range, chipping greens, bunker areas, two-tiered putting greens and a 100-yard practice hole. Pelz designed holes between 100 and 200 yards, with multiple teeing grounds to test all shot shapes and lie angles. Players are encouraged to use two basic playing styles: one for playing target golf through the air, the other for bumping-and-running along the ground.

Club members may play for free before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m. Members will also have six complimentary rounds available to play between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Guests of club members pay a guest fee of $25. All players can use a cart for a $10 per rider fee. To make a tee time, call 970-926-5550 or visit
