CRMS beats VMS 3-1
The Vail Mountain soccer team entered its game Thursday vs. the Colorado Rocky Mountain School without Sylvan Ellefson (bad back) and then, the Gore Rangers lost midfielder Patrick Scanlan to a shoulder injury early against the Oysters.
Those injuries and a surprisingly strong CRMS team led to a 3-1 defeat for VMS
“I think (CRMS) may be the best team we’ve played this year,” VMS coach Bob Bandoni said. “They were very athletic and strong. They went up 1-0 on a penalty kick and scored two good goals.”
Sebastian Faessler scored for VMS. Bandoni also had good words for the play of Howdy Tuthill and Ray Bernardo, the latter making his first appearance for the Gore Rangers.
“We’re leaving encouraged that, if we have everybody healthy, I think we’ll do OK,” Bandoni said. Our younger players are playing well. We didn’t have two players, but the guys played hard against a good opponent.”
VMS hosts St. Mary’s Saturday at 11:30 a.m., as a part of Homecoming.
