Battle Mountain Fall Information
Tryout for Huskies golf start Aug. 7 at Eagle-Vail Golf Club. Tee Times begin at 1:24 p.m. Please contact coach Cassie Desmone at 376-3494 or via firstname.lastname@example.org. For other fall sports, athletes may contact the coach through the Web site huskyteams.com under the coaches’ link. There will be two parent meetings at Battle Mountain on Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m. and Aug. 13 at 8 p.m. Please contact your coach regarding which meeting to attend. Eagle Valley Fall Practice
The Devils practice schedule begins with boys golf on Aug. 7 at Cotton Ranch Golf Club at 4 p.m. Football practice starts Aug. 14 at 9 a.m. at the EVHS auditorium. Football players, please bring your cleats. Volleyball starts Aug. 14 at 6 a.m. in the EVHS main gym. Softball starts on Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. at the Gypsum Sports Complex Softball Field. Boys soccer starts Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Gypsum Sports Complex Soccer Field. Physicals and insurance forms for all sports must be competed by first practice.
Cross-Country Runs Begin
Battle Mountain cross country began its voluntary summer runs July 10. Runners should meet at Edwards Elementary School at 5:45 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Since Battle Mountain is the only school with a cross-country program in the county, runners from Eagle Valley, Vail Christian and Vail Mountain are more than welcome to join, as are other runners in the county, looking to get in shape. Youth Football Officials Needed
WECMRD is looking for people to officiate the its youth football program this fall. The program is for players entering grades four through six. Games will be played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, as well as Saturday mornings in either Eagle or Edwards. Officials earn $30 per game as an independent contractor. WECMRD Adult Hockey
WECMRD is taking registrations for the fall adult hockey leagues at the Eagle Ice Rink. This season. the Eagle Ice Rink will be offering an adult upper league and an adult lower league (co-ed teams may play in the lower division). You can sign up a team for $1,750 or register as a free agent for $125 per individual. Each team will be guaranteed seven games. The lower division will play on Sunday evenings at 6, 7:30 and 9. and the upper division will play on Monday evenings at 6 and 7:30 throughout the season Aug. 20-Oct. 9. The registration deadline is Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. and all registration fees must be paid at this time. Each individual must register online with USA Hockey at http://www.usahockey.com. This fee is $30 which gives each skater an additional $25,000 in supplemental insurance if he or she were to get injured while playing ice hockey. Players and team managers must turn in all insurance confirmations to Scott Ruff at the Eagle Ice Rink before their first game. Call 328-5277.
Soccer Coaches Needed
The Vail Recreation District is seeking volunteer coaches for its valley-wide youth soccer program. Coaches are need for the U-8, U-10 and U-12 teams. U-8 soccer, ages 6-7, practice Tuesdays and Thursdays with Saturday games from Aug. 29-Oct. 21. U-10 soccer, for ages 8-9, practice Mondays and Wednesdays with Saturday games from Aug. 28-Oct. 21. U-12 Soccer, ages 10 -11, practice Tuesdays and Thursdays with Saturday games from Aug. 29-Oct. 21. Experienced coaches are preferred but training will be available for those who have never coached soccer. Fees are waived for children whose parents are volunteer coaches. The Dunk-N-Dash, a biathlon series hosted by the town of Avon, will have races Aug 9th, 16th and 23rd, starting at 6 p.m. The biathlon features an 800-yard open water swim in Nottingham Lake followed by a 5K run around the lake and along the Eagle River Recreational path, ending in Harry A. Nottingham. Pre-registration is open until the day before race day ($15/race) at Avon Recreation Center. Race day registration will open at 4:00 p.m. at the registration tent located by Nottingham Lake and is available for $20 cash only. Wetsuits are required, and available to rent, although quantities are limited.
The Board Room in Avon is offering its members of The Board Skateboard instruction and clinics for ages 6 and up. It’s open to boys, girls, moms, dads or anyone interested in learning skills and improving their abilities. Volleyball officials training
Colorado Volleyball Officials’ Association (CVOA), Area 6, is offerning training for those interested in becoming high school and middle school volleyball officials. Training will cover High School Federation rules, scorekeeping, line judging, and officials’ mechanics and game procedures. These classes will introduce you to the fundamentals that will prepare you to join the officiating ranks. The classes will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and Aug. 9. The Federation test will be given on the Aug. 16 meeting for new officials. Classes will be held in Glenwood at 3724 CR 115 (Red Canyon Road) in the Spring Valley Castle. Volunteers Needed for Running Races
The Vail Recreation District is seeking volunteers to help with the Teva Vail Mountain Trail Running Race Series. Volunteers are needed on race days to help with course marshaling, timing, registration and aid stations. Volunteers receive goodie bags, T-shirt and are entered into a raffle for prizes at each race volunteered. The next race in the series the Teva Tiga Berry Picker on Aug. 13. The final race, the Teva Joint Worx EverGold 10K will take place Sept. 10. Volunteers are also needed July 9 for the Vail Mountain Trophy Race, which is the final selection race for the Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team. Learn to Roll
