Davis, Hedrick of U.S. face off again at 1,500 meters

RICHMOND, British Columbia – Two years ago, Chad Hedrick’s wife taped a set of goals to the back of their front door, something for him to think about every time he headed for the speedskating oval.

At the top of the list: a gold medal in the 1,500 meters.

In one of the most anticipated races at the Olympic oval, Hedrick and American rival Shani Davis face off Saturday with hopes of giving the American two more medals.

Davis already defended his title in the 1,000, and Hedrick pulled out a surprising bronze. Davis is the world-record holder in the 1,500, but Hedrick has beat him twice in the past few months and considers it his strongest event.
