DelBosco slated for downhill race
Vail CO, Colorado
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. ” Vail’s Chris DelBosco will be competing in today’s Jeep King of the Mountain downhill biking event in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
DelBosco competed in last year’s Jeep series event at Beaver Creek and was asked by organizers to race in Saturday’s event.
“I loaded up everything (in the car) and took the opportunity,” DelBosco said Thursday, en route to San Luis Obispo. “It doesn’t come around every day.”
The Jeep series features two downhill mountain bikers racers going head-to-head on a Y-shaped course in a two-race, best-time format. In addition to today’s race, DelBosco will also be racing in this year’s Jeep series finals at Beaver Creek on Sept. 1.
Last year, DelBosco made it to the semifinals in the Beaver Creek event. DelBosco, who races skiercross in the winter, is coming off a meniscus tear in his knee that he sustained in a crash at the Winter X Games. After finishing out the skiercross season, DelBosco had surgery late in the winter and took time off to heal.
“I’ve been riding a ton on the road, and I’ve been in the best fitness I’ve ever had,” DelBosco said. “The (race) will get me going and back in the game for the Beaver Creek event.”
Friday, DelBosco got some runs in on the course and said he felt pretty good.
Today, after seeding in the morning, the racers will square off in the afternoon. The event will be aired on Sept. 23 on CBS from 3-5 p.m.
