Delta blanks Huskies gridders 49-0
The Huskies stayed with the Panthers for the first quarter, trailing just
7-0, before Delta blew open the game with big plays in the second quarter.
“Delta outplayed us,” Huskies head coach Fred Koetteritz said. “We came out and went up against them well in the first quarter. They made a couple of big plays and then fed off their momentum. They were tough to stop. They had our number.”
In the second quarter, the Panthers broke off a 53-yard run and 72-yard pass play as well as two long drives. Delta led 35-0 at the half and scored 14 more in the third quarter.
“We had a tough time getting our running game going,” Koetteritz said. “They were able to stifle our passing game. They batted down several passes. They got backside pressure on the quarterback and sacked him five times.”
Huskies quarterback Eddie Irgens did manage to complete six passes for 65 yards. Junior Martinez led the Huskies rushing attack with 42 yards. Defensively, Rob Reed and Jose Morales led the Huskies in tackles. Morales also had a fumble recovery in the first quarter.
