Denver to host 2014 men’s world lacrosse games
DENVER – The Federation of International Lacrosse says as many as 38 countries will compete when the United States hosts the 2014 Men’s World Championship in the Denver area.
FIL President Feffie Barnhill said Thursday that U.S. Lacrosse made a strong bid for the championship games and the sport has strong support in Denver.
The 2014 championship will be July 10-19 at Dicks Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, just north of Denver.
U.S. Lacrosse President and CEO Steve Stenersen says the sport’s rapid growth in the Midwest and West was a factor in selecting the Denver area for the games.
Nearly 1,000 athletes are expected to compete in the championship, held every four years.
