Devils beat Palisade … twice

PALISADE — Eagle Valley beat Palisade. It’s really simple.

The Devils beat the Bulldogs twice on Thursday. (Eagle Valley football, please follow with a win on Oct. 24 in Gypsum.)

Eagle Valley volleyball won 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 over Palisade on Thursday, while soccer won there, 5-2, as well.

Volleyball

While the eyes on the Slope were in Edwards for the Battle Mountain-Steamboat Springs clash, Eagle Valley’s spikers won on two fronts — a league win and a game gained in the standings.

The Huskies lead the league at 7-0, followed by the Sailors at 6-1 and the 5-2 Devils. A lot can happen in the second half, people.

Eagle Valley won its fourth in a row on Thursday with big kills from Carlee Morrison and Morgan Murphy. Coach Lindsey Myers was also very happy with Devon Green’s defense.

And if traveling to Palisade on Thursday night wasn’t enough, check out Eagle Valley’s schedule next week — at Delta on Tuesday, at Aspen on Thursday and at Steamboat on Saturday. (What? No Pueblo?)

“Our girls have to be mentally and physically ready for next week,” Myers said.

Soccer

Aaron Ledezma and Aldo Palacios both scored twice and Daniel Carillo added his first varsity goal as the Devils downed Palisade, 5-2.

The win pulls the Devils into a tie for fourth in the Slope with Delta at 3-4-1 in the league. The next goal is to take a bite out of the league’s top-three teams: Summit County, Battle Mountain and Steamboat Springs.

In a related development, the Huskies come to Gypsum on Saturday.

“We’re trying to get better, get these kids a little more experience,” Devils coach Bratzo Horruitiner said. “Our goal is to get into the top three. I think we’ve done well against those teams. They were losses but we were competitive. If you want to be someone in the state, you’ve got to start with those teams.”
