GYPSUM — Eagle Valley soccer made it a happy Homecoming with a 3-0 blanking of Rifle Saturday afternoon.

Noel Ruiz, Aaron Ledezma and Aldo Palacios all scored as Eagle Valley upped its record to 3-6-2 and 3-4-2 in the 4A Slope.

“It’s definitely not last year’s team.” Devils coach Bratzo Horruitiner said of his squad’s improvement.

The Devils have a big week ahead with league games against Glenwood Springs on Tuesday at home and Palisade on Wednesday on the road.

DELTA

Huskies fall at Delta

Battle Mountain soccer finished a week of road games with a 2-1 loss at Delta Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies (9-2) trailed 2-0 until Brandon Osorio scored on a pass from Roberto Diaz.

“It was a real shame,” Huskies coach David Cope said. “We knew this would be a tough stretch of games, and, so far, the first three games have all been one-goal games.”

Battle Mountain concludes its four-game road trip Tuesday at Summit County in what is the de facto Slope championship game. The Huskies will be looking to avenge their 2-1 loss to the Tigers in Edwards.

ASPEN

Cross country

Devils strong at Severy

Hello, snow.

Eagle Valley cross country ran in four inches of the white stuff on Saturday at the Severy Invite in Aspen.

Times were unofficial, but definitely slower.

“The course is not only a mountain course like Battle Mountain (at Beaver Creek), but with four inches of snow, times got slower,” Devils coach Melinda Brandt said. “Our main goal was to be competitive.”

Aspen had scoring problems, so Brandt was guessing, but she thought the boys were first or second. What was definitely true was that Michael Niemeyer had a good bounce-back race Saturday.

The Hoss winners were Nate Selton for the boys and Nikki Cunning for the ladies. Cunning was racing for the first time since having an appendectomy.

The Devils are at Palisade on Thursday.

ENGLEWOOD

Huskies jam at Windjammer

Way to go, Rohannabel.

Rohannabel would be Rychelle (pronounced Rochelle) Denardo, Hannah Gaylord and Anabel Johnson, who all had personal records, helping the Huskies girls cross country team to a second-place finish at Saturday’s Windjammer Invitational in Englewood, while the guys were fifth.

Since the Huskies are pretty certain that Val Constien and Sydney Gaylord can run, it was important that this trio do their thing. Also of not is that all five of the boys’ scorers were in the 17-minute range.

“There were 32 teams there, a majority of them 5A schools,” Huskies coach Rob Parish said. “We’ve deliberately sought out the best meets, and our athletes have embraced it.”

The Huskies finish the regular season at Rifle.

Vail

Huskies defeat Saints

Battle Mountain defeated Vail Christian in three sets on Friday night.

The Huskies (10-1) are at Glenwood Springs Thursday, while Vail Christian (11-4) hosts Paonia on Tuesday.

Eagle Valley made it season sweep of Delta with a road win against the Panthers, 25-22, 25-17,25-20, on Saturday. Eagle Valley (8-3 and 7-2) hosts Summit County on Thursday,

Vail Mountain School made it 4-2 in the 2A Slope by downing Rangely in four games on Friday night.
