GYPSUM – Eagle Valley hurlers Craig Wilmers and Tim Peters combined for a one-hitter as the Devils beat Battle Mountain, 14-3 Tuesday in Gypsum.”I was very happy with our pitching,” said Eagle Valley manager Ralph Carlson. “Craig Wilmers had four strikeouts in what is only his second outing. He has an unorthodox delivery, but it seems to work.”Peters, who normally catches for the Devils, struck out three in two innings, and did some damage against Battle Mountain pitchers, going 2-for-3 with a triple.”He’s thrown some in the bullpen, but he doesn’t get in there a lot during games,” Carlson said.Battle Mountain’s Jeremy Windham went two innings on the mound, and scored one run. Joe Ortega pitched the final three innings for the Huskies, while Dalton Casady scored two runs.Heavy hittersThe Devils’ Joe Felix went 2-for-3, while Hunter Blevins, Kenny Slaughter and Bear Barkman each went 2-for-4.”We ran the bases well and hit well,” Carlson said. One player who didn’t need to run the bases well was the Devils’ Herman Hogue, who blasted a solo home run.”It kind of came out of the blue,” Carlson said. “But he smacked it really hard to the opposite field.”Eagle Valley hosts Olathe Thursday at 4 p.m., while Battle Mountain hosts Glenwood Springs for a twinbill Saturday at 11 a.m.Vail, Colorado
