Devils fall at Steamboat
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Eagle Valley soccer suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday night, a 2-1 decision at Steamboat Springs.
While, of course, the Devils want to win every game they play, this is improvement. Last year, Eagle Valley went up north for its fourth game of the season and fell to the Sailors, 4-1. A 2-1 loss is a sign that the Devils may be moving in the right direction with regard to becoming one the league’s contenders.
“If it was 5-0, it would have been a completely different story,” Devils coach Stephen Baxter said. “One goal is a good game. We can definitely compete in the top tier of the league. Their goalie was phenomenal.”
Eagle Valley still managed to crack the net with a beautiful corner kick from Jessie Adams. Mariel Gutierrez one-timed it into the net for the Devils (2-1).
Eagle Valley will stay in a Springs state of mind. Glenwood Springs comes to town today for a 1 p.m. game, followed by the rematch with the Sailors on Tuesday in Gypsum.
