Devils girls lax beats up Telluride Tuesday

GYPSUM — That’s how it should go.
Eagle Valley girls lacrosse picked up its first win of the season in convincing fashion on Tuesday, white-washing Telluride, 15-0, at John Ramunno Field in Gypsum.
After being competitive with both Battle Mountain High School and Grand Junction in losses, there was no need for talk of moral victories on Tuesday.
“It’s hard to start the season with two losses,” Devils coach Stephanie Renzelman said. “It pumps them up a bit.”
Haley Carpenter, Lindsey Martinez, Molly Jewett, Abby Jewett, Megan Aalto and Teaghan Mercer were among the scorers for the Devils. Eagle Valley (1-2) is showing signs of a diversified attack as Carpenter had five in Tuesday’s game. That follows big performances by Martinez and Judy Torres in the first two games of the season.

Devils soccer earns tie
FARMER’s KORNER — Eagle Valley and Summit County played to a scoreless draw on Tuesday evening over the pass.
With a howling wind up in Summit, Eagle Valley’s defense stood tall in the first half when the host Tigers had the gale at their backs. In the second half, the Devils (2-1-1) did everything but score.
“We had so many crazy chances,” Devils coach Maggie Sherman said. “We got unlucky. We had some bad bounces deflect off the post. We just couldn’t find the back of the net.”
The good news for the Devils is that it looks like they will miss most of the incoming weather with a break in their schedule. Eagle Valley is a Roaring Fork on Tuesday for a nonconference tilt.
