Devils Homecoming spotlight – Jared Schlegel

Devils running back Jared Schlegel has ridden the bullback of his offensive line to more than 600 yards, so far this season. He is a rodeo competitor, who, in his first season as a varsity starter, averages around 10 yards per carry. Schlegel is a Sooners fan, a weightlifter, and a huge fan of girls and steak.

What’s fun about football?: “Pretty much the whole thing. Getting to hit people. Getting to see who’s better, us or them. And, I also like winning.”

Best moment on the football field: “Last week against Hotchkiss, I rushed for 210 yards and a touchdown.”

Most embarrassing moment on the football field: “I guess when we had fourth-and-inches. There was a pitch to me, and I didn’t get the first down. A kid on the other team took out my legs and made me look like an idiot.”

What’s coach John Ramunno like?: “I like playing for him. He always has a positive attitude, and he knows we have potential. I like our system here; it seems to work pretty well.”

Funniest player on the team: Matt Garth

Favorite subject: “Weightlifting, I guess. I have English and economics, and I don’t really like either.”

College plans: “I want to go to school on a rodeo scholarship. I’m big into rodeo, but I’m not sure what school yet.”

Career plan: “I don’t really have one. I’ll probably become a rodeo professional.”

Sports you watch: Football, basketball and hockey

Favorite football team: Oklahoma Sooners

Favorite player: Broncos linebacker Al Wilson

Favorite movie: “”Remember the Titans’ gets me ready to pay football.”

If you were principal Nelson Gould for one day, what would you do?: “I’d let everybody have the day off.”
