DENVER – Hello, quarters.All three Eagle Valley wrestlers at the Colorado state tournament won their opening matches Friday at the to advance to today’s quarterfinals at the Pepsi Center.”We got day one out of the way,” said Devils’ coach Ron Beard. “We’re very happy they came out with wins.”Junior Chad Strakbein started things out for the Devils with a 9-1 win at the 103 weight over Robbie Orban of Silver Creek.Freshman James Harvey took down Michael Rangel of Greeley Central at 130 by a score of 6-3, while senior Brendan Best defeated Rangel’s older brother, Josh, at 189, 12-2.Both Strakbein and Harvey won in their first state appearances.”For their first time on the Pepsi Center floor, anticipating it all day, you’ve gotta be happy,” Beard said.Best, who took second at 171 last year, has been to state all four years.Today’s quarterfinals matches being at 1 p.m. Strakbein faces Jerry Huff of Broomfield, Harvey has Logan Bunch of Cheyenne and Best has Sonny Yohn of Alamosa.Sports Writer Ian Cropp can be reached at 748-2935 or
