Devils take first in Aspen
ASPEN – The Eagle Valley girls’ golf team took first Thursday at the Aspen Tournament.Leading the way for the Devils was Chelsea Hedrick, who took first overall in 4A with a 94.”She had a lot of one putts for par,” said Eagle Valley coach Joanie Ewing. “That’s a solid round for her, and she was pleased with it.”Chelsey Lueders shot a 97 to take third in 4A.
“She said the thing that killed her was chipping,” Ewing said. “Everything else was great for her.”Rounding out the scoring for the Devils was Keegan Hammond with a 103.”We know she’s not coming in with a high score,” Ewing said. “She’s right on the bubble (to break 100). One of these days it’s going to click, and she’ll be in the 90s.”Jeanette Baker had a 112, and freshman Kate Denboske, in her first year golfing, shot a 120.On Monday, the Devils took third in Moffat’s tournament at Yampa Valley. Hedrick led the way with a 97, followed by Lueders with a 103 and Hammond with a 105.
As has been the case in most meets, the two teams ahead of Eagle Valley were Moffat (270) and Rifle (290).”(Moffat) played really well. They are usually at about 290. Rifle had two girls in the low 90s,” Ewing said. The Devils head to Cobble Creek Monday for their last regular-season tournament.Ewing hopes her players will be able to take down either Rifle of Moffat where it matters most – at regionals.
“If both Chelsea and Chelsey shoot in low 90s and Keegan stays in low 100s, we’re right there,” Ewing said.Sports Writer Ian Cropp can be reached at 949-0555, ext. 14631, or firstname.lastname@example.org.Vail, Colorado
