Dunk ‘N’ Dash kicks off Wednesday

AVON – Use the Dunk N’ Dash Wednesday and Aug. 24 to get ready for the TriAmerica Avon to Vail triathlon Sept. 3-4.The swim will be approximately 800 yards in Nottingham Lake. Swimmers will enter the water from the end of the docks on the south east corner of the Lake. Swimmers will collect for a unified start. The swim will run clockwise, for one loop, around buoys in the lake. Buoys will be on swimmer’s right. Swimmers will exit the lake at the boat ramp.

Transition will be set up in a coned off area on the grass. Participants will be able to place a towel and their change of shoes, clothing, and running number in this area.The 5K run will begin and end at a marked line by The Pumphouse. The run will head north bound around Nottingham Lake. It will follow the rec path to Avon Elementary, head south bound, and will have a left turn onto the river recreation path. The turn around for the run will be near Bob the bridge. Runners will head back on the same path but will go around the south side of the Lake to The Pumphouse for the finish. Pre-registration is open until the day before race day. Race day registration will be open at 4 p.m. at the tent by Nottingham Lake. No faxed entries will be accepted. Pre-registration fees are $13 per race or $20 for both races. Race-day Registration fees are $15. There will be a large timing clock at the finish line so that participants may check their finish times. Awards and post-race snacks will be held for participants, family and friends beginning at 7 p.m. near the finish in Nottingham Park. A fun bag of goodies will be given to the top-three female and male finishers. The water temperature for the races can be expected to be 65-70 degrees. Wet suits are required. If you do not have a wet suit, Beaver Divers will rent them $15 per day or at a special rate of $30 for the three dates (Aug. 10, 24 and the triathlon on Sept. 4).
