Dylan Bidez of Minturn has been invited to compete in the first Sports Illustrated For Kids Next Snow Search All-Stars competition in this month at Keystone, where NBC Sports will film the skiing and snowboarding action as the lead-in show for the network’s Winter Olympics coverage.Bidez, a 15-year-old athlete, won honors in 2004’s event as North America’s best male snowboarder and was named to the Sports Illustrated For Kids Next Snow Team representing Copper Mountain.Next Snow Search is an annual season-long, national talent search to find young athletes who best represent the next generation of skiers and snowboarders.The 2006 “All-Stars” event will bring together the elite members of the 2004 and 2005 Next Snow teams for two days of competition at Keystone, host of the past two Next Snow Search Finals. On Jan. 27-28, the best of the best will compete in an all-around test of skill for the honor of being named to the first Sports Illustrated For Kids “All-Stars Team.”A one-hour show featuring the “All-Stars” will air on NBC Sports on Feb. 11 (Noon-1 p.m.), the first day of competition of the Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.In 2005, Bidez won the Trofeo Topolino halfpipe competition in Italy and managed to come in third for boardercross. He came in 19th of 113 at the recent Grand Prix in Breckenridge, the youngest competitor to make it to finals. Bidez has been riding and competing on his snowboard since he was 5 years old.Vail, Colorado
