Eagle Valley 11-12 girls capture districts

The Eagle Valley 11-12 Girls captured the District 3 Champhionship held in Gypsum last weekend and will compete in the state tournament starting Saturday.

The girls played a doubleheader against Grand County and won the first game with a score of 27-10 that ended by the 10-run rule in the fourth inning. Pitcher Stephanie Sieg struck out five and helped helped her own cause with three singles and two doubles. Marisa Ammaturo had three singles and Kara Platt-Chenoweth had two singles to help on offense.

In the nightcap, Grand County came back with a 10-9 win.



The championship was a best-of-three series. Eagle Valley won Game 3, 20-11. Beth Hall got the nod on the mound and went four innings with three strikeouts.

She also helped her team offensively with two singles. Good defense and Kelsey Foster pitching the final two inningssealed the win. Foster fanned two and had three hits of her own.

In this final game, Eagle Valley’s offense exploded for the win – Narcissa Huffman had three singles and Sieg had two singles and a solo home run, Hannah Maxwell, Alexandra Bohren, Platt and Shaylynn Nielsen each rapped out two hits. Kirstie Eckert ripped off three singles.

The members of the team include Marisa Ammaturo, Alexandra Bohren, Kirstie Eckert, Kelsey Foster, Beth Hall, Narcissa Huffman, Rachel Landin, Hannah Maxwell, Shaylynn Nielsen, Kara Platt and Stephanie Sieg.

The team is coached by Carol Sieg, Kyle Hall, Tom Maxwell and Ron Sieg and sponsored by Big Steve’s Towing.
