Eagle Valley and Cedaredge battle in first conference game

Ryan Slabaugh

Hopefully, they’re going to tonight’s Eagle Valley athletic double dip. First at 5:30 p.m., the Devils volleyball team, 4-2 on the season, hosts Cedaredge in a telling district contest. Both teams are shooting for one of three spots from the district into regionals this season. With Aspen, led by all-stater Lizzie Suiter, picked to win the district, the spots are going to be hard to come by.

Right after the volleyball game, the Devils football team will be trying to avenge last year’s 28-24 loss to Cedaredge at 7:30 p.m. It was Eagle Valley’s first loss of the season, giving tonight’s matchup of unbeatens an even greater meaning.

Cedaredge (2-0) is coming off a 28-19 over 3A Moffat County and is ranked No. 4 in the state, while the still-unranked Devils trumped Steamboat Springs 28-20 last week. This will be both team’s first Western Slope League game.

n Saturday, Eagle Valley soccer travels to Colorado Rocky Mountain School for an 11 a.m. start. The Devils (2-5) are coming off a thrilling 4-3 win over Aspen Tuesday. With no team looking to dominate the conference, every win could mean a spot in state.

n Vail Christian volleyball looks to get back on the winning track Saturday as the Saints travel to Ridgway and Ouray for a 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. start, respectively. The Saints fell to league contender Crested Butte last week.

n Meanwhile, back home, the Saints football team is hosting Northpark (0-2) at Battle Mountain High School. Vail Christian (1-1) was dropped by Westland Christian last week, but looks to get the ball rolling again with a win Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
