Eagle Valley baseball sweeps Moffat County

CRAIG, Colorado ” The pitching couldn’t get much better for the Eagle Valley baseball team on Saturday.
In a two-game sweep against Moffat County, the Devils outscored the opposition 21-1 and gave up only four hits.
“T.J. (Loera), Cody (Coulter) and Jack (Barbella) all did awesome,” Eagle Valley coach Ken Reagan said. “It’s easy to play defense and do things right when you not walking guys.”
In Game 1, Barbella was nearly perfect. The junior went all seven innings on the mound and gave up only one hit ” a bloop single in the sixth. That was the only base runner of the game for Moffat County. Barbella fanned 12 batters in the 11-0 win.
“His curveball was pretty good,” Reagan said. “The biggest thing was he threw tons of strikes. They couldn’t touch him. He just had one of those games. We had some pretty good defense out in the field when we had to have it.”
Aaron Hakes led the Devils offense with two hits, including a home run and two RBI. Robert Padgett, Loera and James Van Dyke each notched a pair of hits for Eagle Valley.
The Devils broke open the nightcap with a six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 10-1 victory. Cooper Adams notched a pair of hits and an RBI.
James Sanchez, Barbella and Padgett added one RBI each.
Coulter earned the win on the mound with five strong innings. Loera got the save after throwing two innings and striking out four.
Eagle Valley (12-5, 9-4) is back in action on Monday when it hosts Coal Ridge.
