Eagle Valley, Battle Mountain track report

MONTROSE – Not bad at all for openers.

Eagle Valley track and field had its first outing of the season at the Montrose Early Invite, and the girls finished third, while the boys were fourth.

With unlimited entries, Eagle Valley got a good look at a whole bunch of athletes.

“I think it was really fun to get a chance to look at the freshmen,” Devils coach Jeff Shroll said. “We were missing some kids because of the (school) play. I was definitely impressed with Kelly Cassidy whith how she performed. Michelle Carbajal is freshman who came out and scored. Elizabeth Schwaiger led all the (girls) relays. On the boys’s side, I think we have four jumpers who can go over 6 feet, and Zeke (Sandoval) and Nick (Ross) are just so much faster as sophomores.”

Huskies girls second in Frederick

FREDERICK – There was plenty of wow for the Battle Mountain track and field at the Warrior Pow-Wow Invitational in Frederick Saturday.

The Huskies ladies finished second out of 14 teams with a whopping 90 points, while the boys were eighth. What’s especially gratifying for Battle Mountain is to see contributions from all aspects of the team, as opossed to just the long-distance group, which has been the squad’s traditional strength.

“It’s really good to see the entire team – throws, jumps, sprints and distance, across the board – all contributing. This is one of the best athletic teams I’ve seen and they’re going out and doing their best for each other and themselves. This is a special group of kids, and we’re having a blast, and it’s only Week 2.”
