Eagle Valley girls soccer knocks off Glenwood, 5-3
GLENWOOD SPRINGS — And that’s another first.
Eagle Valley girls soccer made it a clean sweep of Glenwood Springs with a 5-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Stubler Memorial Field.
“It feels good to go into their stadium,” Devils coach Stephen Baxter said. “We all know how the grass is down there. It’s not the most pleasant.”
Give Baxter a prize for a tactful description of one of the toughest places to play in the Slope.
Mariel Gutierrez scored four times, and Jesse Adams added the other.

And now, Eagle Valley (8-3) has season sweeps against Summit County, Palisade and the Demons, all teams from which it didn’t take two last year.
The Devils finally get out of the conference with a date with Roaring Fork on Saturday at Hot Stuff Stadium.

VMS blanks Rams
Vail Mountain School girls soccer may still be adding players, but the team isn’t skipping a beat.
The Gore Rangers knocked off Roaring Fork, 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the soccer shrine that is Bandoni Alumni Field.
And while watching the standings is frowned upon at VMS, the Gore Rangers at 4-0 in the 3A Slope are one of three undefeated teams left in the league (Coal Ridge and Grand Valley).
“We are enjoying them as a group,” VMS coach Bob Bandoni said. “We are trying to find a system that complements our kids the best. The kids are so positive that they’re an easy group to coach.”
Emma Hall, who scored the first and third goals against Roaring Fork, was a force from the left side of the midfield, creating multiple scoring opportunities for the Gore Rangers.
Bandoni also had kudos for freshman Olivia Giaccio, who replaced an injured Katie Harrison in the midfield. Kristen Vossler had VMS’ second goal and goalie Holly Parker recorded the shutout.
The Gore Rangers, 6-1 overall, host Rifle today at 4 p.m. (Yes, that is a change of venue, if you have an old schedule.)
