PALISADE, Colorado ” The Eagle Valley softball team scored seven first-inning runs and held on to beat Palisade, 12-11, Tuesday.

Rachel Landin, Kayla Gagnon and Kara Platt did most of the damage offensively, but the win was a team effort. Every Devils player in the lineup recorded at least one hit and one run.

“They set a goal for themselves tonight,” Eagle Valley coach Bill Beasley said. “They said they wanted to score a minimum of one run per inning. I said after we scored seven (in the first), we couldn’t eliminate innings. We were hitting the ball hard tonight.”

Landin led the Devils with three hits, three stolen bases, four RBI and two runs scored. Kara Platt added two hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Gagnon went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Despite allowing 11 runs, the defense also did well for Eagle Valley. The Devils saved the win by gunning down a Palisade runner at home plate to end the game.
