DELTA, Colorado ” A balanced Eagle Valley volleyball team over powered Delta on Thursday, sweeping the Panthers in three games. The Devils cruised 25-19, 25-11 and 25-18.

Eagle Valley has now won six consecutive sets, improving its record to 3-1 on the season.

Instead of relying on one standout to score all the points Thursday, the Devils used an array of players to beat Delta. Setters Whitney VanVoorst and Shelby Wright did a good job of distributing the ball to multiple teammates. Wright finished the game with an 83 percent, passing percentage. The assists resulted in easy kills for Eagle Valley.

“Angela Phillips played really well,” Weatherred said. “We really spread the ball out pretty good. Everyone contributed, no one really stood out. The more angles you can attack the other team from, the better. “

The Devils took control of the first game behind the serving of Whitney Wright. With the tied score at 12, Whitney served eight-straight points to put the game out of reach. In the 25-19 win, Whitney notched four aces.

The second game wasn’t even close, as the Devils were in control the whole way. In the third set, Weatherred emptied his bench to give everyone a chance to play. Eagle Valley responded by completing the three-game sweep with a 25-18 victory.

“(Delta) was a scrappy team that keep digging balls and sending it over,” Weatherred said. “We had to work for what we got.”

Even if no one stood out offensively, the back row of Eagle Valley defenders did a good job of shutting down the Delta attack. Jaclyn Taylor led Eagle Valley with eight digs in the match.

“Our libero, Jaclyn Taylor, and Shelby Wright really controlled the back row,” Weatherred said. “Every time they thought they had something, one of those girls were there to gobble it up. I don’t think we really hit the ball that well, we had a couple of errors in the first game. But the defense and the passing was so good, it made up for it.”

Eagle Valley hosts Palisade on Saturday at 1 p.m.
