Eagle Valley, Vail Christian win regionals

What a superb Saturday.
Both Eagle Valley and Vail Christian volleyball went 3-0 in their regional tournaments, qualifying for state and assuring themselves of a top-four seed at the Denver Coliseum Friday and Saturday
In Longmont, 4A Eagle Valley dispatched Palisade and Pueblo West for a 2-0 mark in the Region C Tournament. The Devils’ win against Pueblo West was particularly sweet, as the two teams met last year in regionals and the Cyclones essentially extinguished Eagle Valley’s state hopes. When Skyline, the regional’s top seed took Pueblo West in four, the Devils were officially in.
Not content with merely a state berth, the Devils beat Skyline in four games for their first regional title. Eagle Valley smoked the Falcons in the decisive fifth game.
This is Eagle Valley’s first trip to the dance as a 4A school. The Devils last went to state in 2002 as a 3A team.
Down in Gunnison, 1A Vail Christian earned its third trip to state, and first since 2007, The Saints bested Sierra Grande to start the day, and then earned their invite in sweet fashion defeating Norwood in four games. The rival Mavericks beat Vail Christian in the season-opening tournament down at Grand Valley and last week at districts in Olathe.
Just like Eagle Valley, Vail Christian didn’t sit on its laurels, dispatching Mountain Valley in three to make it a perfect 3-0 day.
