Eagle Valley wrestlers win at Coal Ridge
Vail, CO Colorado
PEACH VALLEY, Colorado ” The Eagle Valley wrestling team traveled to Coal Ridge for a dual on Tuesday night. The Devils used two victories and a number of forfeits to win, 35-29.
Joey Bajza scored one of Eagle Valley’s wins with a 15-0 technical fall over Geovany Sabillon. Chris Moya pinned Collin Carbone in 1:03 for the Devils other victory not by forfeit.
Last Saturday, Eagle Valley added another accolade to its already stellar season.
Bajza claimed the 125-pound title at the Northglenn Invitational. The victory means each of the Devils’ four most accomplished wrestlers (Bajza, Andrew Hill, Colt Ewing, Matt Kottenstette) have all won a tournament this year.
Bajza’s road to the title didn’t take long. He pinned his first opponent in only 42 seconds. Bajza advanced to the finals after a pair of lopsided wins. In the title bout, he recorded the fastest pin of the day in 31 seconds against Northglenn’s Nick Ortega.
Eagle Valley’s other wrestlers also did well. Kottenstette placed fourth for the Devils at 140. The sophomore went 3-2 on the day, including a fall against Keith Lucero of Pomona in his first match of the tournament.
Ewing tied for fifth place for Eagle Valley after going 3-2 in the 119-pound bracket. Hill did not place for the Devils at 135 after battling a cold all week.
