Everyone aboard for state

BEAVER CREEK – It may have been Eagle Valley’s hill in Thursday’s high school slalom, but it was the Vail Mountain School which had the top local individual finishers on Bear Trap.

In the girls race, VMS’ Elle Rubin was fourth, followed by teammate Athena Brownson in eighth. For the guys, the top local was Tyler Kjesbo in ninth for the Gore Rangers.

For the Eagle Valley girls, Nicole Luczow led the way in 11th. Hannah Nelson took 30th and Kerstin Leary nabbed the 45th and final state spot.

Joining Ruben and Brownson for VMS at state were Kenzie Grant (25th), Katie Wear (39th) and Lucy Sackbauer (41st). Battle Mountain had a solid day. Kate Van Hee led the black and gold in 16th, followed by Heidi Moore (18th), Natalie Baldwin (26th), Rolena Richardson (27th), Kelly Van Hee (28th), Jamie Roberts (31st), Paige Bennett (34th), Jenna Hughes (38th) and Josie Sutner (42nd).

On the boys’ side, state invites also went to Eagle Valley’s Chris Brandl and Kyle Green; Battle Mountain’s Wilder Heuga, Bart Cuomo, Jamie Hijmans, Grant Stevenson, Charlie Coats and Freddy Wickes and VMS’ Mick Seeman, David DeLine and Drew Riley
