Fairgrounds to buzz with softball action this weekend
Representing Shawnee, Kan., and all corners of Colorado, the teams will vie for championships in different age groups between 12 and 18 years old.
“We’ve got six to eight more teams than we had last year,” said Butch Reynolds, tournament organizer and coach of the local 18-and-under team. “We’re going to see high school-caliber ball. All of the teams will be competitive.”
Action gets started Saturday at 8 a.m. and will continue until 9 p.m. Play starts Sunday at 8 a.m., with the championships scheduled for around 6 p.m.
The host team, a select team from Eagle County, will use the funds to help support them in future tournaments. Reynolds’ team went 2-2 last weekend in Cheyenne, Wyo., its first tournament of the season.
“The girls played pretty well for the first games of the year,” Reynolds said. “We did well and we hope to do well this weekend.”
The tournament is free and concessions will be available.
