EAGLE COUNTY — Last month, the Battle Mountain Fencing Club traveled to Grand Junction to compete in a tournament that was hosted by the Colorado Mesa University Fencing Club. The competition featured high school fencers from Vail, Grand Junction, Rifle, Ouray and other clubs on the Western Slope.

The Battle Mountain High School team was outstanding in the epee competition.

• First: William Watson

• Second: Natalie Arroyo

• Fourth: Anlali Tamang

• Sixth: Alex Arroyo

• Eighth: Ivana Kosteski

Watson and Arroyo fenced for the championship in a close bout and Kosteski was the youngest competitor at 13. Tamang and Arroyo saw some tough competition getting through to the quarterfinals. Coach Don Watson said he was pleased and said the club is open to all ages and levels.

Because it is sponsored for Action for Children, all Eagle County students can fence for free at Battle Mountain High School every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
