First installment of Mogul Mania takes flight Saturday

Well-oiled knees and big air will be in high demand as the Ninth annual Mogul Mania series takes flight on Vail Mountain’s Cookshack Run, Saturday.The bump action will get under way at 10 a.m., with single-elimination mogul competition on dual courses, while the Liberty Skis Air Show will launch at 1 p.m. And don’t miss the all-new rail jam, a two-hour session for boarders and skiers held adjacent to the Finish Corral at the base of Cookshack.The prize purse for the Liberty Skis Air Show is $500 for first place, $300 for second place, and $200 for third place. The rail-jam pay out will be entry-based.Following the on-hill competition, festivities continue at the Altitude Billiards and Sports Club with a awards party featuring prizes for all contest divisions. Swap the big stories of the day over drinks with fellow competitors and spectators.Mogul Mania pre-registration is available online at or in-person at the Ski Base in Lionshead across from Moe’s BBQ until today at 5 p.m. Entries are priced at $25 per event for amateur competitors, $50 for professionals and air-show participants, and $20 for rail-jam competitors. Lift tickets for competitors are $35 and are available for purchase race day only.
