was real excited when I told him he was going up, Sky Sox manager Stu Cole said. work hard all spring training, all season, your whole career for that chance. It exciting for him.
Giambi, whose last game was July 19 with Oakland, was activated on his second day with the Sky Sox and had his first plate appearance, which resulted in a five-pitch walk with one swing and a miss.
pitches, I locked in, Giambi said with a smile. tried to jump ship that first swing.
Cole said Giambi was to go even though speculation was he wouldn play until today.
was good for him to get in there and knock off the cobwebs, Cole said. biggest thing is to get his timing down but it probably won take long for a guy like him.
