Gypsum basketball academy returns for sixth year

Some of the coaches at next week's NOD Basketball Academy are, from left, pro player Kirk Archibeque, former Valparaiso University guard Jon Kedrowski, former Valparaiso player Chris Tomer, local coach and former Eagle Valley player Sarah Brubeck, Fort Lewis College assistant coach Bob Pietrack and former Eagle Valley and Grand Junction Central coach Phil Cain.

GYPSUM, Colorado – The No Off Days basketball camp returns to the valley next week with a coaching lineup that includes current and professional players, and college coaches.

Former Eagle Valley High School basketball standouts Jon Kedrowski and Bob Pietrack launched the camp six years ago because wanted to give something back to their school and its students.

The established a scholarship and fund it through the camp and other sources.

“I feel like we just started this,” Kedrowski said.

Next week’s NOD camp is split into two sessions.

The mornings are for individual campers and younger players, grades 3-8. Team camps follow in the evenings for high school aged players.

“We have kids coming from all over the area,” Kedrowski said.

The scholarships are a huge part of why they do the camps. They’re looking for scholar/athletes, and in that order.

Eagle Valley graduate Matt Kottenstette was the third winner of the Pietrack-Kedrowski Scholarship. He earned a 4.2 GPA and is headed for the Colorado School of Mines. Before him, Nick Pietrack and Cooper Adams won it.

Kedrowski and Pietrack played together at Eagle Valley. Kedrowski played his college ball for the Valparaiso University Crusaders.

You can now call him Dr. K, The Shot Doctor.

He earned his Ph.D. and is a professor at Central Washington University.

He and Pietrack are still working together. He’s an advanced scout for Fort Lewis College, where Pietrack is on the coaching staff.
