Half marathon at Beaver Creek this Sunday
BEAVER CREEK – Beaver Creek Resort and U.S. Race Series host the inaugural Beaver Creek U.S. Half Marathon Sunday. This will be the third in a series of four events in 2005 produced by US Race Series, http://www.usraceseries.com. The Beaver Creek race features the only trail course of the series. Other U.S. Half Marathons are in Sun Valley, Idaho, Napa/Sonoma, Calif., and San Francisco. The Beaver Creek U.S. Half Marathon features a scenic 13.1 mile course traversing from Beaver Creek Village to Bachelor Gulch and back. A mid-point timing and relay station will be positioned in front of the Ritz Carlton in Bachelor Gulch allowing runners to enter two-person relay team. More than $2,000 will be awarded in cash and prizes to the top finishers in both individual and team competition. Registration and information is available online at http://www.runbc.com. The event is held in conjunction with Beaver Creek’s Labor Day weekend Oktoberfest. Runners receive a technical running shirt and commemorative 32-ounce beer stein. The race awards ceremony will be held in Beaver Creek Village at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, followed by the Oktoberfest celebration featuring bands, food, beer, and drink specials. The race expo with packet pickup and registration is on Saturday at The Charter at Beaver Creek from noon-5 p.m. Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m., a pasta dinner will be held in the Leonard Room at The Charter at Beaver Creek. Eco-Challenge and adventure racing champion Mike Kloser and pro triathlete Josiah Middaugh will share race and training tips and other experiences at the dinner.
