Siblings: Tristan, 5

What’s it like to have a younger brother?: “It’s so much fun. It’s a blast. We play video games.”

Can you beat him?: “Depends on the day. Some days, he can beat me. He’s pretty fast. Sometimes, he needs a lot of help and I help him a lot.”

What’s fun about running?: I tried soccer at the very beginning of my freshman year. Then I tried cross country and went from being one of the last people on the soccer team to being one of the best on the cross-country team. I found I was a lot better at cross country than soccer.”

Pre-race routine: “I try to stretch a lot and listen to some music beforehand. It kind of depends on the day. Mostly a lot of hard rock. It gets your blood going.”

What’s your race strategy?: “You just start off by checking the course out. You try not to get too nervous. You try to stay as calm as you can. You try to pace yourself.”

How do you keep going when you hit the wall?: “I just tell myself, “Keep going. I’ve made it this far. I can’t stop now. I have to finish the race.’ My times from the previous race are kind of my motivation. I’ve got to beat it.'”

Favorite course: Steamboat

What’s the team like?: “Everybody’s in a really good mood all the time. Everyone jokes around with one another. It’s real easy going.”

What’s runner’s high like?: “It’s twisted. It’s kind of indescribable. It’s a rush after you get done racing. You don’t want to stop.”

Funniest cross-country moment: “It’s kind of an inside joke. It’s called “The Moo.’ You make cow horns and moo and everybody else moos with it. It was kind of joke one day. You say moo and the whole team moos with you.”

What’s it like to be a senior?: “It’s a relief. Senior-itis, the very first day, but it’s expected. It’s cool to know you’re almost done and everybody’s looking up to you. It makes you feel important.”

Favorite subject: Mechanical drafting

Into cars?: “Big-time.”

Dream car: 1994 Nissan Skyline GTR R33 – bright yellow or black
