HoneyStinger Wins Vail AdventureXstream Race
VAIL – More than 150 adventure racers battled it out for the top qualifying spots into the Xstream Expedition Race next month and title of Series Champions recently. Heavy rains and wind the day before the race, made the mountain bike and trek sections a mud fest and challenged the racers in more ways than one. Fortunately, race day skies cleared up and by the time racers reached the 11,500 summit the sun was shining.Team HoneyStinger (Paul Maniaci, Keri Nelson, Scott Murrell and Jeremiah Renier) took first place in the Vail AdventureXstream Race Four-person Co-ed category with a winning time of 7 hours and 55 minutes. Second and third place went to Team Solomon/SmartWool and Team Pedro’s Boulder, respectively. First-place solo-male finisher in the Vail 12-hour race was Travis Macy (Team ProTech/Highgear/TrainingRx) with a winning time of 6 hours and 21 minutes. First-place solo-female finisher in the 12-hour race went to Jodi Kiefer (Team Go Lite/Timberland Sprint) with a winning time of 8 hours and 6 minutes. The winner in the two-person co-ed elite 12-hour race was won by Team Santa Fe Bear Pair (Jan & Kim Bear) with a finishing time of 8 hours and 31 minutes.
