Huskies a hit in Big Apple
Vail, CO Colorado
The Battle Mountain dance team brought home three trophies, including grand champion, from the U.S. Championships, held in New York earlier this month.
The dance team’s victory at the National Dance Alliance U.S. Championships on March 10, resulted in three top finishes. The team took first place in the small varsity pom category, was named grand champion for having the highest overall score in the high school dance division, and earned the Sportsmanship Award.
The small varsity pom and grand champion wins were a result of flawless dance performances. The Sportsmanship Award was a unique honor, as the competition staff voted for the winner. The Huskies dance team was chosen for being cooperative, energetic, polite, and showing support for other teams at the competition.
“I am extremely proud of this team,” coach Julia LeGrand said. “As a two-season sport, the dance year is long, but the girls have remained dedicated and kept working hard. They are all amazing and talented athletes. They deserve their success.”
“This was an incredible competition for us,” team co-captain Cindy Engle said. “To win first place in three categories was amazing. All our hard work all year paid off.
“We are very thankful to be able to compete in New York this year,” co-cpatain Katie Denton said.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without all the sponsors and support we received from the community. It was a great way to end the season.”
