Huskies advance to hockey finals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado ” One more to go.

Battle Mountain hockey eked its way into Saturday’s state-championship game on a power-play goal by Kodi Wyatt with 10:13 left in third period, while Gustav Philipson sealed it on an empty netter with less than a minute to play to lift the Huskies to 2-0 win Thursday night at World Arena in Colorado Springs.

Battle Mountain plays the winner of Thursday’s second semifinal between Regis and Lewis-Palmer Saturday here at 1:30 p.m.

Again it was Battle Mountain’s penalty kill that saved the day. With Huskies defenseman Eric Davis in the box, Battle Mountain’s Barrett Chow had a breakaway and dished a pass to Jake Lammert. Mustangs’ goalie Sebastian Trujillo stopped the shot but Lammert drew an interference penalty from Ralston Valley’s Chris Behnke.

Wyatt stole an errant clear at the top of the point and ripped it past Trujillo for the game-winner.

Battle Mountain goalie Kalen Burnett earned his first playoff shutout.
