BASALT — This had been a bit in coming, to say the least.

Battle Mountain baseball returned from spring break and got a much-needed and deserved 6-4 win at Basalt on Monday, snapping a five game skid.

The Huskies (5-9 overall) tied the game at one in the top of the second with a Nick Williams single. Peyton Kellerman brought him home with a knock down the right-field line.

Battle Mountain took this one over with a four-spot in the fifth. Pitcher Sean Weller helped his cause with a hit to start it. Wyatt Harwood doubled him over to third. Thomas Singleton, who had a 3-for-4 day, knocked in the first run. Harwood scored on a wild pitch and Hunter Meier capped the rally with a double down the left-field line.

“We have almost a third of our season in one week, so it’s nice to get this run started on a positive note. It’s definitely a big plus coming back from the break and getting a W.”Jose MezaBattle Mountain baseball manager

Meier and Weller combined in the efforts on the mound on Monday. Meier scored again on seventh–inning single from Franklin Reilly.

Just what the doctor ordered

After a bunch of close losses in league play, this was just what the doctor ordered as the Huskies played the first of six in the next week — ah, the joys of Western Slope baseball.

“We have almost a third of our season in one week, so it’s nice to get this run started on a positive note,” Huskies skipper Jose Meza said. “It’s definitely a big plus coming back from the break and getting a W.”

Battle Mountain hosts Summit County today at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
