Huskies down Grand Junction
Vail, CO Colorado
GRAND JUNCTION – It was an early bus ride to Grand Junction for the Battle Mountain boys lacrosse team, but it managed to pull off a 12-7 win Saturday.
“I’m proud of the way the boys played today, especially with the long bus ride. They came out on the field ready to play,” coach Kevin O’Brian said.
Grand Junction came out to a quick start and a 6-4 lead, but Battle Mountain was able to fight back with a third-quarter run, finishing strong for a final score of 12-7.
O’Brian said the team did a good job of spreading the ball around, with Timmy Liccardi, Reeve Saunders and Josh Rosenbach getting two goals apiece.
“The boys never got down on themselves, never put their heads down, never gave up,” O’Brian said. “They just kept fighting and working and winning ground balls – doing the grinding-type plays that eventually lead to goals. They just kept fighting, and next thing you know, we’re up 10 to six.”
The victory improved Battle Mountain’s record to 11-1, and the team is looking forward to the remaining games this season.
“For the next two weeks, we’re going to let the guys that are a little bit banged up heal and get ready for our last homestand. We’re just going to play lacrosse and work hard – go out there every day and get better,” O’Brian said.
