With four seniors, eight returnees in all and talented underclassmen, yes, tournament berths this fall will be precious commodities for the Huskies.

“It definitely helps improve them. it pushes them. It’s good,” coach Cassie Desmone said.

Clint Wilson, Eric Nordstrom, Lee Garvie, Austin Chow and Michael Lippert will represent Battle Mountain at Cedaredge and Delta on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. But given the talent of the team, their spots are not secure.

Ben Vancuren, Keith Denton, Matt Nichols, Jason Chase, Chad Rush, Nathan Simon and Jon Peterson have earned varsity spots and will compete for tourney berths.

“Keith Denton, he’s on fire this year,” Desmone said. “Remember last year, he was stuck at 80. He proved me wrong at the tryouts where he shot a 77 at Eagle-Vail. So I was so psyched. He’s going to be hot this year. Ben is going to be hot. Clint, Eric, Lee and Austin are also going to be contenders there and Michael Lippert, he’s surprised me. I’m getting excited thinking I’ve got a good team here.”
