Huskies golfers shine at Yampa

Chris Freud

The Huskies finished second Monday with a score of 190 at the Moffat County Invitational at the Yampa Valley Golf Course. All three of Battle Mountain’s top players carded 100 or lower.

“They are finally coming together,” Huskies coach Cassie Desmone said. “You know how it is. One day you have your short game and the next day you’re hitting off the tee like a mad dog. Both games are coming together.”

Lauren Bruce-Lund led the way with a 94, followed by Krista Kedrowski with a 96. Briana Shoulders finished with a 100.

Tori Johnson, Alexis Guinn and Paige Hazard rounded out the Huskies contingent.

The tournament up in Craig was Battle Mountain’s last until regionals next week in Dos Rios Golf Club in Gunnison. There, Desmone will be sending out Bruce-Lund, Kedrowski, Shoulders and Liz Berens.

In the meantime, the Huskies are getting in a lot of good work with local golf professionals.

“They are so confident right now, it’s unbelievable,” Desmone said. “We were at the (Cordillera) Valley Course for practice and they got to work on the course with (Cordillera pros) Brock (Sloan), Pentti (Tofferi) and Erica (Narowetz) from 4 until 7. They are working on their swing and it’s paying off.”
