Huskies Homecoming spotlight: Wes Stephens

Sure, Parke Robbins, Josh Kundolf and Jon Simpson can move. But the backfield of the Battle Mountain football team doesn’t go anywhere without the line. So we sat down with center (and also linebacker) Wes Stephens to get a look at life in the trenches. The Huskies will be at Phelan Field Friday night, hosting Montezuma-Cortez, at 7 for Homecoming. Don’t be late.

What’s it like in the trenches? “It’s a lot of work. Sometimes, it gets tough, but it’s a lot of fun. It’s a blast.”
Defense or offense? Defense ” “It’s great to hit people as hard as you can. You have a lot of adrenaline going. I can’t really explain it.”
What’s a long drive like? “It feels good to keep it moving. It’s awesome.”
Why football? “I started in middle school. I just love this game, no matter what.”
What’s the key for the season? “I think we just have to work on our defense. Our offense is there all the way. Our defense just needs to be able to stop the ball.”
What’s coach David Joyce like? “He really knows what he’s doing. He’s got it planned out. He works us hard to make sure we know what we’re doing.”
Funniest teammate: Chase Olle
How much are you looking forward to Homecoming? “I can’t wait. Homefield, it’s going to be exciting.”
Best moment in football: Interception for a touchdown sophomore year
Most embarrassing moment: “The count was on two, and I snapped the ball on one.”
