Huskies spotlight – Whitney Allard
Competing in cross country in the Western Slope is one thing. Getting a varsity spot on the girls’ team at Battle Mountain may be just as hard, if not harder. One of those fine young ladies competing for one of those spots is senior Whitney Allard. She wants to break the 20-minute mark to help the Huskies get it done at regionals nd state. It’s really hard. I would say it’s the hardest course we run. It’s really hilly, but it’s a really good experience to be able to run.”What’s the altitude advantage?: “We have an advantage because we are able to train on the course and we’re at a high elevation, too. They don’t get that.”What do you like about cross country?: “I like the team in general. Everyone is so supportive of each other and the coaches. it’s really good.”
How strong is the girls’ team?: “We’re really, really excited. We’re going to try as hard as we can and not let anything in our way.”What’s the competition on the team like?: “There’s a lot of competition. We calculated that there’s 10 of us that could be on varsity very easily and it’s going to be hard for us to stay on varsity, but we’re going to support whoever it is.”Goal of the season: Breaking 20 minutesWhat’s the camradarie on the team like?: “It’s great. Everyone loves each other.
