Huskies sweep Summit

SUMMIT COUNTY — And that’s the Summit two-step, people.

Battle Mountain High School boys basketball won at Summit County, 72-54, while the Huskies girls team downed the Tigers, 40-27, back in Edwards.

Over the pass in Farmer’s Korner, the guys started slowly on the defensive end, but they allowed just 18 points in the second half.

Devin Huffman was a big part of that effort with five blocked shots and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, Abdoulaye Dath went bonkers with 21 points. And the soccer team did well with Miles Joersz having 18 points and Jack Skidmore with 13 points.

Battle Mountain moved to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in league. The 0.500 mark is important because only five teams from the 4A Slope are assured of berths in the district tournament with the Southwest League.

“It’s really good. That brings us to 0.500,” Huskies coach Phil Tronsrue said. “If we can go to Palisade and walk out of there with a win, that puts us back above 0.500 and keeps us battling for the district tournament.”

Meanwhile, the Huskies ladies are on a winning streak. Battle Mountain made it two in a row with a win over the Tigers.

Both Battle Mountain teams are at Palisade on Friday.
