Independence week: Golf for the good of the nation

Andrew Harley

With the passing of another week of golf-related activity, we’d like to remind the men of the links that even though Texas rules state, “If a person does not hit his drive past the ladies tees, he must drop his trousers during his next shot,” we live and play in Colorado.

Eagle Ranch

n Speaking of on-course nudity, it has come to our attention that a group of three ladies mooned Eagle Ranch Director of Golf Jeff Boyer from the 18th green during the Eagle Valley Charitable Fund “Birdies, Bogeys and Brewskis” Tournament a week ago. Cheers, Jeff.

n Eagle Ranch is in peak season, and features regular play for the Fourth of July for those who aren’t signed up for independence Day tournaments.

n Friday Night Flights, Eagle-Vail’s long-drive competition, continues every Friday after the Fourth of July.

n Eagle-Vail is holding a Red, White and Blue Scramble, open to the public, on the Fourth of July. Tee times begin at 2:30 p.m., and there is a $30 entry fee.

n Eagle-Vail has installed their peak-season rates, which are $99 from 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m., $79 from 2-4 p.m. and $59 after 4 p.m. And they have a special celebratory special in today’s paper: buy one round, get one free.

Cotton Ranch

n Cotton Ranch is hosting a Fourth of July 2-Person Scramble, open to anyone with a valid handicap.

n On the July 5, Cotton Ranch features a “Flag Day” tournament, which starts everyone off with the amount of strokes in their handicap. The competitors use their strokes to get as far around the golf course as possible, and after the last stroke is used, a flag is planted.

n Cotton Ranch has an Eagle Valley rate of $65 and a twilight rate (after 3:30 p.m.) of $40 – both of which include cart and range balls.

Vail

n Vail held the annual Fred Alexander Memorial Golf Clinic Thursday, where approximately 150 kids learned some skills from PGA pros.

Sonnenalp

n The Sprint Charity Classic wraps up today, and the Steadman Hawkins Colorado Classic will be held there on Monday.
