Vail, CO Colorado

Vai, Coloradol ” SOS Outreach, formerly Snowboard Outreach Society, recently kicked off its 14th season with a recognition ceremony for Bill Jensen.

Vail Resorts President of Mountain Operations, Jensen, was presented with SOS’s first Humanitarian Award.

“The most critical piece to SOS’s success is their whole focus on values. As much as it’s fun and it’s going out and learning to snowboard or ski, there’s another message that gets delivered. It’s about values that have to do with responsibility and maturity. I am proud to accept SOS’s first annual Humanitarian Award,” Jensen said.

After 13 years of teaching snowboarding to youth who would not get an opportunity to experience the mountains, SOS is expanding into skiing. This year, SOS Outreach is serving more than 3,000 youth at 30 mountain resorts in eight states. Vail Resorts, through Jensen, donates over $600,000 in in-kind donations to SOS

each year.

“We are proud to present Bill with this award. We hope this brings attention to the power that the snowsports industry plays in making a positive impact in kids’ lives,” SOS Outreach Executive Director Arn Menconi said.

SOS Outreach mentors and teaches disadvantaged and underprivileged youth valuable life skills and core values through three programs: Learn To Ride, the University Program, and the Diversity Program.

The ceremony was located on the snow east side of the Eagle’s Nest deck and Adventure Ridge. For more information on SOS, to donate or to volunteer, call 926-9292 or visit
