Kai Owens took another step forward in her World Cup comeback season last weekend in Val Saint-Cǒme. The Ski and Snowboard Club Vail alumna tied her season-best performance with a sixth-place result in the individual moguls competition last Friday. It was her third top-10 result; she also was 17th in the dual moguls event at the Canadian venue.
“Had a good time in Val Saint-Cǒme this weekend!” Owens posted on her Instagram page. “I’m super happy to walk away with another super final and to keep building!”

Owens opened the season in Ruka, Finland, in November and made her first super final in two seasons. That competition was the first for Owens since Dec. 15, 2023. The 2022 Olympian has battled various injuries since the 2022 Beijing Olympics and Junior World Championships in Chiesa in Valmalenco. The 20-year-old missed all of the 2022-23 season and the second half of last year. Owens is currently ranked ninth in the mogul cup standings and 14th in the overall moguls and dual moguls rankings.
Fellow SSCV alumna Tess Johnson rounded out the second weekend stop of the annual North American swing with a 13th and 10th in the individual and dual competitions. Jaelin Kauf led the U.S. with a runner-up finish in the individual competition and a win in the duals event. Canadian Maia Schwinghammer delighted the home crowd with a victory in the individual event.
The FIS freestyle circuit heads to Deer Valley this weekend for dual and individual moguls events Feb. 6-8.
